Our client requires a contract technical author to join their user assistance team for the duration of 6 months starting in October. To be considered for this position, you must have excellent writing skills, experience of modular/XML environment, experience documenting software products to aggressive deadlines, and experience producing video-based tutorial in Camtasia.
The Role
- Use the content management system, DITA XML and XMetal to develop and maintain user-facing documentation for the 2012 release. Training will be provided to get a successful candidate up to speed on using XMetal.
- Extract details from technical meetings, engineering and design specifications, and hands-on testing of the product.
- Assist in the development of ‘how to’ and demonstration videos.
- Assist in identifying ways of improving documentation usability and gathering customer feedback.
Requirements
- Degree in English, Technical Communication, Architecture, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience writing high-quality user documentation. Evidence\work samples will be requested prior to interview.
- Proven ability to write modular documentation in XML environment.
- Working knowledge of Structured FrameMaker and XMetal.
- Ability to produce quality work with aggressive deadlines.
- A self-starter with a strong work ethic, sense of humor, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience producing screen captures with SnagIT.
- Experience producing video-based tutorials with Camtasia.
- Familiarity with agile software development principles.
