e-Learning (eLearning) Developer Recruitment

If you are looking to recruit an e-Learning Developer (eLearning Developer) but are not sure what they can do, or if you are interested in becoming an e-Learning Developer (eLearning Developer), the summary below will give you a good idea of what you can expect.

e-Learning (eLearning), and particularly Rapid e-Learning, can be a very cost effective way of presenting training materials to a large number of delegates situated in a number of locations without having to bring them to the classroom. In conjunction with a Learning Management System (LMS) it also enables you to monitor the take up rate and results/pass rates (where a quiz is involved).

Rapid e-Learning can be facilitated in a very simple format such as through PowerPoint presentations but for more complex (hopefully more effective) solutions there are a rapidly increasing number of offerings available. To list just a few:

  • PowerPoint
  • Adobe Captivate (particularly good where screen capture processes are fundamental to the learning requirement)
  • Articulate (Storyline, Studio or Online)
  • Lectora
  • Camtasia
  • Flash
  • Video
  • etc.

e-Learning (eLearning) can use text, audio, images, animation and streaming video to deliver intuitive, engaging content that can occur in or out of the classroom.  An e-Learning Developer (eLearning Developer) is someone that creates courses that can be studied over an online computer network and is synonymous with multimedia learning, computer-based instruction (CBI), computer-based training (CBT), computer-aided instruction (CAI), internet-based training (IBT), web-based training (WBT), online education, virtual education, virtual learning environments (VLE) and digital educational collaboration.  When combined with face-to-face teaching the term blended learning is commonly used.

e-Learning development generally starts with the Instructional Design of the material (a set of instructions describing the content and format that the module will have) that then needs to be put into the multimedia format. Often the Instructional Design and the e-Learning Development are done by the same person but where teams are involved there will often be dedicated Instructional Designers working alongside e-Learning Developers.
